5 Things: Today's National Moment of Silence
Today, we celebrate the Christmas season, but we also take a moment to remember the 26 lives lost in last week's tragic events in Newtown, Conn.

1. Bedford Christmas Celebration. This year's festivities are scheduled for Dec. 23 at 5:30 p.m. The Caroling program will include a choir, hand bells and strings to accompany the carols and we welcome singers of all ages, and the living Nativity Scene will take place at 6:10 p.m. All area residents are cordially invited to attend. For more information please call the Presbyterian Church at 472-5841.
2. National Moment of silence. Gov. John Lynch has asked residents and workers around the state to take a collective moment of silence at 9:30 this morning in honor of the 20 children and seven adults who were killed last week in Newtown, Conn. Many websites, including Patch, will also take part in the moment of silence with a brief blackout of sites around the globe. We ask you to please take a moment at 9:30 and join us in remembering those who lost their lives and keeping the community dealing with unimaginable grief close in your heart.
3. No NHL? No problem. The Bedford PTG has scheduled a family outing at a Manchester Monarchs game on Saturday, Jan. 19, at 7 p.m., where the Monarchs will be playing the Providence Bruins. This is a great opportunity to help our schools while enjoying an exciting sporting event with your entire family! Tickets are just $15 so please join us to cheer on the home team! All orders are due by Monday, Jan. 7. For more information, including a ticket order form, click here.
