Here are the top stories today in Bedford:
- If you plan to fly American Airlines out of the Manchester-Boston Regional Airport, you may want to check your flights. On Sunday, American Airlines canceled 634 flights — that's nearly one out of every four flights, according to the FlightAware website. The airline also canceled a total of more than 1,500 flights since Friday due to weather conditions and staffing shortages that started last week. In a statement to CNN on Saturday, American Airlines said two days of storms and high wind winds at its main hub in Dallas-Fort Worth drastically reduced the number of planes that could safely land, disrupting a large number of flights. In early 2020, the airline offered buyouts and early retirement packages to employees to cut costs because of the pandemic, but now that demand has increased, they are short-staffed. The airline said that 1,800 flight attendants on leave will return Monday, and more will be back on the job by Dec. 1. (WMUR)
- Police are asking for help to identify a man driving a blue truck with New Hampshire plates who is accused of robbing a CVS pharmacy in Newburyport, Massachusetts. Authorities said a man driving a blue truck with New Hampshire license plates walked into the CVS on Saturday and handed the pharmacist a note saying he had a bomb, demanding prescription drugs. Investigators said he left with an "undisclosed quantity" of prescription drugs. The man, thought to be in his 30s or 40s, is around 5-foot-10 inches and between 160-170 pounds. Police said he may be driving a blue "older-model" pickup truck. If you think you have seen this vehicle or have information, please contact the Newburyport, Massachusetts police department. - Bedford skiers and snowboarders, get ready... The days are getting colder, and New Hampshire ski resorts couldn't be happier. Cannon Mountain, Wildcat Mountain, Cranmore Mountain, Black Mountain in Jackson, and other New Hampshire ski areas are testing snowmaking equipment, running pumps, and checking air and water systems to make snow as soon as temperatures drop below freezing. Ski areas in the state usually start making snow by mid-November. Officials from Cannon Mountain said they plan to open as early as the Friday after Thanksgiving. Many families are not traveling far this year due to the pandemic, and New Hampshire ski areas expect to see more local travelers. (The Union Leader)
