Armed Hooksett Man Shot, Killed In Confrontation With Manchester Cops

Alex Naone, 26, died of gunshot wounds near a Mammoth Road home; this is the 3rd officer-involved shooting in the Queen City in a year.

MANCHESTER, NH — Manchester police responded to 1143 Mammoth Road Friday for a mental health issue shown in the dispatch log.

Police arrived at about 3:25 a.m., and according to the NH Attorney General’s Office, 911 advised that the person was armed with a firearm.

Officers came into contact with a man and neighbors described police yelling for him to drop his weapon. One neighbor said there was one shot which was immediately followed by multiple gunshots. The call log for Manchester Fire Department indicated an engine and an AMR ambulance were dispatched minutes later for severe hemorrhaging.

The man who died has been identified as Alex Naone, 26, of Hooksett. Police, firefighters, and medics provided medical attention, but he died a short time later.

“Pursuant to protocol, the names of the officers involved in the incident are being withheld pending the conclusion of formal interviews. The initial responding officers had body-worn cameras.”

Chief Medical Examiner Jennie V. Duval conducted an autopsy Friday and determined Naone’s cause of death was gunshot wounds to the chest and abdomen and the manner of death was homicide. As used by the office of the chief medical examiner, homicide is defined as the killing of one person by another.

Manchester police secured a large area surrounding several residences with crime scene tape and prevented people from entering the area. One man who came home from working overnight was not allowed to enter his house near where the shooting occurred.

Residents in the area gathered outside in the parking lot, and near a playground sharing information with each other.

New Hampshire State Police Major Crime investigators arrived at the scene and expanded the protected crime scene area.

Several evidence markers seen on the ground appeared to mark the location of ballistic evidence that could be seen on the ground. Another area about 10 feet away had evidence markers, and there were what appeared to be medical supplies left behind by fire and EMS.

A man at the Manchester police station said his brother had been shot and killed. The man, when asked if his brother had firearms, said they had previously been secured at the police station from a prior incident. He indicated detectives were interviewing the victim's mother.

Today's shooting is the third officer-involved shooting in less than one year.

In May, a man was shot after pulling a firearm on a police officer during a traffic stop. The officer shot the person, but the man was expected to recover from his injuries.

On June 19, 2022, officers responded to a domestic situation in the parking lot of Rite Aid located at 270 Mammoth Road. They contacted a man who engaged in a standoff with several Manchester police officers and state troopers. Multiple members of law enforcement fired their weapons fatally wounding Adnan Husejnovic, 33, of Manchester.

All the Manchester officer-involved shootings are under investigation by the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office, however, no updates have been provided at this time.
