In the "whatever-doesn't-kill-you-makes-you-stronger" department, a Bedford businesswoman and mother is gearing up to compete in the Peak 2014 Summer Death Race on June 27.
Jennifer Coletti signed up for the endurance race that will last a weekend – literally. It is a serious race for competitors who like a serious challenge. Even one of the website urls spells out the hardship: Youmaydie.com
So why is this single mother and owner of The Refrigerator Door in Bedford putting herself through such adversity? We asked, and here is what she said in a summary that was part of one of her Facebook status updates:
"Taking control of your life and decisions is empowering. I am finally realizing that I do not need everyone's approval. My responsibilities start and end with my children. A happy, strong, confident mother is what they need, and that's what they are going to get. I am going to death race next week to see how broken I can become just to see how strong I have grown."
The Summer Death Race, in Pittsfield, Vt., describes itself as the ultimate challenge, which is designed to test one's mettle, and to throw unexpected and "totally insane" challenges, according to its website. The race is a 48 hours (plus), and "90 percent of you won't finish," Death Race declares and dares.
Death race: wimps need not apply.
