Here are the top stories today in Bedford:

  1. Democrats are celebrating State Rep.-Elect Catherine Rombeau's victory, who won by 37 votes in a special election. Even with a recount Monday, Rombeau believes the lead will hold. She and local leaders met to discuss the “historic” win, flipping the seat from Republican to Democrat. Democrats attributed the win to Rombeau's being a good candidate with a good message.   2. As COVID-19 cases rise on campus, The University of New Hampshire said as of Friday they required faculty, students, and staff to wear asks inside, except when eating, in private offices, or in dorm rooms. The new measures apply to everyone, including vaccinated and unvaccinated. The university said they are also increasing ventilation and airflow in campus buildings, and adding plastic barriers in dining halls.
  3. Exeter area parents fighting SAU 16 mask rule get day in court. Judge lectures attorney. (Seacoastonline.com)
  4. On Friday, a 7-year-old Bedford boy's dream came true. Liam, who is battling a rare form of cancer, was invited on the field to practice with the New England Revolution, a Greater Boston professional American soccer club, thanks to the Make-A-Wish foundation. Liam’s dad was thankful to the Team for making this possible, and for giving up practice time before a big game. Goalkeeper Matt Turner said that bringing kids a smile, even when they aren't having an easy time, is probably the best part of my job. "Those are things I’ll remember the most when my career ends.”
  5. The tragic loss of 13 US soldiers in Afghanistan on Aug. 26 reminds us all to always remember those from New Hampshire who served in Afghanistan. (Seacoastonline.com)
