Here are the top stories today in Bedford:

  1. The mother of a man accused of planting a fake bomb at Harvard University promised to bring her son to the FBI office in Bedford, New Hampshire May 1, but the complaint said William A. Giordani, 55, “refused" to accompany his mother to the meeting. On Tuesday, Giordani was arrested by Federal officials and charged in a Massachusetts Federal court "with conspiracy, along with aiding and abetting an extortionate threat." 2. The 6th annual blood drive in memory of Thomas Ducharme of Bedford held Tuesday couldn't have come at a better time. Ray Maldonado of the American Red Cross said, "This falls right into what we need, filling the blood gap as much as possible and preparing for the summer, because it becomes tougher for us to collect during the summer." Ducharme died after being struck by a car jogging early one morning in 2016. (WMUR Manchester)
  3. When Brooke Mills, Miss Bedford, was crowned Miss New Hampshire 2023 at Pinkerton Academy on Saturday, she made history! It's the first time that both mother and daughter won the Miss New Hampshire annual scholarship competition. Brooke's mother, Stephanie Foisy Mills, won the Miss New Hampshire crown in 1995. Congratulations Brooke! (Subscription/The Union Leader)
  4. If you purchased Gold Medal flour in Bedford, it may be part of a salmonella recall. General Mills issued a nationwide voluntary recall "after salmonella was discovered in a sample of a five-pound bag," a news release from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration says. The recall "includes two-pound, five-pound and 10-pound bags with 'better if used by' dates of March 27, 2024, and March 28, 2024.'" If you purchased this flour, immediately disposed of it "and contact the General Mills consumer relations department" at 1-800-230-8103. Find out more here: (WMUR)
