Bedford Firefighters Saved Trapped Family During Sandy [VIDEO]

One week later, we look back at a heroic rescue that took place right in Bedford.

Bedford firefighters were dispatched all over town for reports of downed trees and power lines and blown transformers as Sandy moved through New Hampshire early last week.

Yet there was one particular instance that made even the trained emergency personnel nervous.

Deputy Fire Chief Mark Klose said a mother and three children ended up trapped in their Gage Girls Road home as trees crashed all around the property.

Firefighters assessed the situation and initially determined the rescue was too dangerous to handle during the peak of the storm and asked the family to take shelter in the basement.

Medical issues involving one of the children, however, forced firefighters to accelerate the rescue process.
