Here are the top stories today in Bedford:
- Some Bedford residents paid a contractor from Southern Premier Homes to build homes in Florida, but the new houses were never built. On Monday, Cape Coral contractor Christopher Paul Cheney, 43, was sent to prison for defrauding customers and ordered to repay more than a half-million dollars to the clients he defrauded. The sentence also banned Cheney from working in the real estate, mortgage, financial, banking and loan industries. Those affected by the long running scheme included clients from Cape Coral, Bonita Springs, and Alva in Florida, as well as Monmouth, Illinois; Bedford, New Hampshire; Lakewood, Colorado; and Highbridge, New Jersey. - Restoration is underway for one of New England's most popular lighthouses, Nubble Lighthouse, in York, Maine. About an hour's drive from Bedford, the Nubble Lighthouse was put into service in the late 1800s and is still an operating lighthouse today. Restoration of the lighthouse and lighthouse keeper's home has been underway for almost five years. Historic preservation is also valued by the residents of Bedford. The Bedford Historical Society wrote on its website that they are committed to preserving the things "that inform us of our past." Discussing the lighthouse restoration, York Maine's Parks and Recreation Department Director Robin Cogger said, “Old houses are like people. Once you get someone that knows them, you keep them around.” You read more here: (Seacoast Online)
