Here are the top stories in Bedford today:

  1. What's the fastest route from Bedford to the picturesque and quintessentially New England island of Nantucket? There won't be many tourists with the cool fall weather, so you can quietly enjoy a windswept lighthouse and walk along quaint rocky shore beaches. The route from New Hampshire to Nantucket takes just over two hours without traffic. One option is to take the bus from Manchester, N.H. to Boston, and then a second bus to Hyannis. Visitors can then reach the island by ferry, which takes about an hour and a half. Cars are allowed on Nantucket, but it's expensive to bring your car by ferry. Most people find it's easier to get around on foot, bike, shuttle, or by hiring a car. (TheTravel)
  2. New Hampshire State Police and Gov. Chris Sununu provided an update Friday on the State Trooper killed in a crash on I-95, just north of Exit 3 . N.H. State Police Colonel Nathan Noyes and Sununu spoke at a press conference Thursday morning about the death of Staff Sgt. Jesse Sherrill, 44, who was killed in a collision when his cruiser that was parked working a paving detail was hit by a tractor-trailer. The driver of the tractor-trailer was taken to the hospital, where he was treated and released. Traffic was stopped as the procession left Concord Hospital around noon and traveled to the funeral home in Dover. Police and firefighters stopped on overpasses as the procession passed to salute the vehicle. Sununu ordered to fly the flag at half-mast in the State. Police, firefighters, and others stopped on overpasses along the way to salute, as the vehicle carrying Sherrill drove by. (WMUR)
  3. The Boys & Girls Club of Manchester announced a new Teen Tech Lab, thanks to a grant from the AT&T Foundation to help furnish the Lab. The funds will help pay for staff and purchase interactive white boards, printers, hard drives, sound equipment, and furniture. Local students from the Boys & Girls Club of Manchester are proud of a center where they can have hands-on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) learning. Manchester Mayor Joyce Craig and representatives from AT&T praised the investment as a safe haven where the youth in our community to learn and grow. "Every student deserves an opportunity to make their dreams a reality," said Owen Smith, president, AT&T New Hampshire. The Manchester Club includes the main Clubhouse at 555 Union St., as well as two after school sites at Jewett Street and Highland Goffe's Falls Elementary schools. The Boys & Girls Club of Manchester also operates Camp Foster summer day camp in Bedford, N.H. You can find out more here: (WFMZ Allentown)
