Hero Sergeant Promoted to Lieutenant

Scott Plumer takes over command of Bedford PD Communications Division.

Two years ago, Bedford Police Sgt. Scott M. Plumer saved an elderly gentleman from a burning home.

He was later recognized as Officer of the Year for Police Services by the NH Police, Fire and EMS Foundation, in large part, due to the bravery and quick action he displayed in the aforementioned life-saving effort.

On Thursday, Feb. 6, dozens of Bedford officers and town officials gathered at the Bedford Police Department to recognize Plumer for his most recent accomplishment, a promotion from sergeant to lieutenant.

Plumer will now be in charge of the Bedford PD Communications and Records Division where he is already overseeing a complete overhaul and reconstruction of the department's communication center. He's also currently developing new policies and procedures for the operation of the center.

The has been a member of the Bedford Police Department for 12 years and has risen through the ranks from part-time patrol officer to his current elevated standing within the department.

He graduated from the 108th NH Police Standards and Training Academy in 1996 and worked as a full-time officer in Weare, prior to joining Bedford PD on June 12, 2000. He was promoted to sergeant in July 2003.

Among his many accolades and accomplishments with the Bedford Police Department, Plumer has also found successes in handling an armed suicidal subject and using an automatic external defibrillator to save a resident suffering from cardiac arrest. He has also been commended for his investigative efforts regarding a suspicious death at the Bedford Motor Inn in 2002 and for capturing a fleeing felon from the Merrimack district court in 2001.

In addition to his many accomplishments in the field, including several letters of commendation from area police chiefs, Plumer has also been a member of the adjunct faculty at the New Hampshire Police Standards and Training Academy in Concord and currently teaches criminal justice courses at a local community college.
