Bedford Target Store Evacuated, Police Say A Bomb Threat Was A Hoax

BEDFORD, NH — The Bedford Target store was evacuated and temporarily closed due to an incident inside the store Tuesday at around 10 a.m.

The store received a call about an explosive device inside and store management immediately contacted the Bedford Police Department. Bedford Police Chief John J. Bryfonski said officers from the department responded to the store and requested additional resources from New Hampshire State Police. The store’s employees and customers were evacuated and asked to stay in the parking lot area away from the store.

Members of the New Hampshire State Bomb Squad arrived at the store to assist Bedford police. A K-9, specially trained in detecting explosive material, swept the store and found nothing.

Bryfonski said the incident was determined to be a hoax and would be investigated by police. The store was reopened 45 minutes later. All incidents involving a potential threat are taken seriously and investigated.

The incident is similar to other recent incidents called into other retail establishments.
