Here are the top stories in Bedford today:

  1. If you want to enjoy a locally-brewed beer on a crisp New England day, here are a few fall favorites that viewers selected in the WMUR 'Viewers' Choice 2021: Best craft breweries in New Hampshire' Facebook page. See the winners here: (WMUR)
  2. Bedford residents who are caring for a senior, or a family member with a disability, may soon have good news. Sen. Maggie Hassan, who POLITICO called "quiet" and "reserved" is advocating to fund greatly-needed programs for caregivers of the disabled and seniors in New Hampshire. For Hassan, this issue hits close to home. Her son, Ben, has cerebral palsy and needs around-the-clock care. The senator thanks her caregivers, especially her son's primary caregiver of more than 30 years, for her ability to work and serve in the Senate. President Joe Biden initially promised $400 billion for the long under-funded home Medicaid services in The Reconciliation Bill being negotiated in Congress, but the number has been cut to $190 billion – less than half. The danger with underfunding the program, Hassan said, is that it "removes incentives" and would leave thousands of disabled people and seniors" languishing on waiting lists for care." (The 19th News)
  3. The ballots are in, and Democrat Catherine Rombeau held on to her narrow victory against Republican Linda Rea Camerota in the recent Bedford, New Hampshire special election recount. Rombeau won by a slim margin of 37 votes with an initial vote count of 2,325 to 2,288. In the hand recount, Camerota lost one vote and Rombeau gained three. The special election received national attention as it was the first race in the country with a seat that changed from red to blue this year in a traditionally Republican district. Republican David Danielson, who passed away in May, previously held the seat. (Union Leader)
