Here are the top stories today in Bedford:

  1. Over 2 million people plan to travel to New England for Thanksgiving. and more than 90 percent of travelers in New Hampshire are expected to drive. Dan Goodman of AAA Northern New England said to make sure your car is in good condition and allow extra time for traffic. Airlines will also be busy, with over 2 million travelers. TSA spokesperson Dan Velez said the business days for air travel will be Tuesday, Wednesday, and the Sunday after Thanksgiving. He recommended arriving at least two hours early to get through crowded TSA lines, reminded air travelers that masks are required through January 2022, and recommended downloading the TSA App that shows estimated wait times for security lines and has links to information about "what you can and can not bring in your carry-on bag." Safe travels, and have a Happy Thanksgiving. (WMUR)
  2. Remembering Monday, Nov. 22, The 58th Anniversary Of The Death Of President John F. Kennedy: In 1963, Wayne Sargent lived in Bedford, New Hampshire, where he grew up. He was only 8 years old, but said he remembers that day "like it was yesterday." Sargent told his story to The Washington County Insider, a newspaper in Washington state where he now lives, to commemorate the 58th anniversary of JRK's death on Nov. 22. He said he clearly remembered the excitement of seeing the U.S. Senator from Massachusetts riding in a parade down South Willow Street in Manchester heading to City Hall, where he would give a speech. Sargent also remembered the November day when school was canceled, and everyone was sent home. He found his mother crying in the living room watching their black and white TV. She told him that President Kennedy had been shot. He cried. Everyone did. It was as if the nation has lost a friend, Sargent recalled, and was a memorable moment of his young life. 3. A large Dyn sign used to sit on top of a Millyard building facing the Merrimack River. You may have seen it driving on I-293 through Manchester on your way to Bedford. The once-prominent sign was replaced by an Oracle sign when Oracle bought Dyn (called Oracle + Dyn) for a reported $600 million in 2016. Then, the Oracle sign quietly came down when Oracle moved the Manchester office to their larger locations in Nashua and Massachusetts. Building owner Carlisle Capital Corporation said they now have plans for a new sign — “150 Dow” that will appear in red letters. They plan to have the new sign become a permanent addition to the building skyline, according to Mark Graham, vice president and chief financial officer. A drawing of the sign, that will be visible from Interstate 293, was provided to the Heritage Commission to show how the sign will look. (The Union Leader)
