Here are the top stories today in Bedford:

  1. Body Found, Bedford Stunned: Police went to a Bedford New Hampshire home for a wellness check after family members said they hadn't heard from Kimberly Heller's mother for months. When police arrived, no one was home. They returned the next day but said Kimberly Heller wouldn’t allow them to enter. Police officers returned later that day with a search warrant and discovered her mother's body in the home. Police said she died of natural causes sometime in May around Memorial Day, and that Social Security checks continued to be deposited after her death. Kimberly Heller, 54, was arrested on a misdemeanor charge. (WMUR)
  2. Are you looking for a lost wedding ring? It may have been found at the Bedford Public Library. On their Facebook page, the Bedford library said a wedding ring was found in October and they would "love to reunite it with its owner!" I can't think of a better story that could have a happy ending for the holidays. If you think this may be your lost wedding ring, please call the Bedford Public Library at (603) 472-2300 or email reference@bedfordnh.org. (Facebook)
  3. Highest cases in the U.S.: New Hampshire made headlines this week having the highest number of new active COVID-19 cases reported in a single day, with 29% of active infections in children. New Hampshire is taking COVID-19 seriously. Governor Chris Sununu said that the state expected a "winter surge," and urged anyone who is not vaccinated to get a shot or booster shot when they are eligible to help protect against serious illness. The CDC recommended continuing preventative health measures, including social distancing in public places where there may be unvaccinated people, wearing masks in crowded places, washing hands, and sanitizing frequently touched surfaces. Hospitals in New Hampshire are near capacity with 403 hospitalized patients Wednesday — the highest number since the pandemic began. There were seven new deaths and three were under the age of 60. Health officials reported 8,000 active cases in the state or almost 500 active cases for every 100,000 people. Bedford currently has 109 active infections, with 13 new cases.
