Here are the top stories in Bedford today:
- A New Hampshire Brewery owner is running: Brewery owner and national security expert Jeff Cozzens announced that he is running for NH’s 2nd District U.S. House seat held by five-term Democratic U.S. Rep. Annie Kuster. He filed his declaration of candidacy Monday afternoon. The North Country Republican says he decided to run because of what he said was a "failure" of the Biden administration. Cozzens hired strategic communications firm Jamestown Associates to help guide his campaign. Republican activist Robert Burns of Bedford is also running in the GOP primary race, hoping to challenge Kuster in the general election next year. (WMUR)
- This is a story that is strangely true. A gravestone was recently found in the middle of a New England road, and the police in Westford, Maine are trying to figure out how it got there. They believe the gravestone was from an Old Baptist Cemetery in Yarmouth — 30 miles away. The gravestone mystery in Maine brings to mind the historical gravesites that are part of Bedford's colonial past. According to The Trustees of the Cemeteries of Bedford website, three of the four cemeteries in Bedford are designated as "historical" cemeteries and date back to colonial times. The town of Bedford was founded in 1750. You can read more about the Maine story here: (WMUR)
- What happened to the Bedford Walmart? The former Walmart building is now the new home of The Wire Belt Co., a fourth-generation family-owned business that will be moving into the 123,000-square-foot facility at 17 Colby Court in Bedford. Wire Belt President and CEO David Greer recently signed the lease and will begin updating the building for light manufacturing. The move comes after the company outgrew their previous location of 30-years on Harvey Road in Londonderry. The Wire Belt Co. company produces wire mesh conveyor belts — primarily for the food industry. The growing company also expects to bring new jobs to Bedford. (Union Leader)
