Here are the top stories today in Bedford:

1. A vehicle caught on fire in Bedford after crashing into a utility pole knocking down live power lines Wednesday morning. The accident closed a section of Wallace Road near the intersection of New Boston Road, and flames could be seen shooting from the car into the air. It's unknown why the driver lost control of the vehicle. (WMUR Manchester)
2. New Hampshire has a surplus of "a half-billion dollars" in the budget and is experiencing record-low unemployment. When the state’s fiscal year ended in June, the General and Education Trust Fund had an extra $538.9 million, noted Andrew Cline in a New Hampshire Journal article. (Patch)
3. The state of New Hampshire is under a high heat advisory and flood watch Thursday and Friday. The National Weather Service issued a high heat warning from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, with a possible heat index of up to 98 degrees. In heat and high temperatures be sure to "drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms, stay out of the sun and check up on relatives and neighbors." Also, keep in air conditioning in vey hot conditions. A flood watch has also been issued from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. with scattered thunderstorms and torrential downpours possible. (Weather.com)
