Dozens Attend Bedford Christmas Tree Lighting

Several influential residents honored at the event.

The Bedford Women’s Club, this week, lit the town's Memorial Christmas Tree in front of dozens of local residents.

The event, which was held at the intersection of Church Street and North Amherst Road on Thursday, also presented the club an opportunity to honor several influential Bedford residents for their services and contributions on the local level.

Patty Lenza presented Wanda Jenkins with the club's Friendship Award, for "her cordial style," and Julia Schappals was recognized with the Inspiration Award for "her generous service and for her volunteerism" on community boards and committees. Nita Beale presented Schappals with the award.

In addition, Earl Isham was honored by the club for "his service to the country and to Bedford" with the Recognition Award, which was presented by Madonna Lovett Repeta.

The color guard from Richard K. Harvell Post 8401 of the VFW and Stevens-Buswell Post 54 of the American Legion presented the colors at the event, and Bedford Women's Club President Kathleen McMillan delivered the event's opening remarks.

Donna Guibord of the Bedford Garden Club had the honor of lighting the tree.

The Bedford High School chorus wowed the crowd with a couple patriotic tunes in respect of a the aforementioned veterans in attendance and, of course, they also performed several cheerfl Christmas carols (see attached video for a short clip of the event, including music and photos).
