Here are the top stories in Bedford today:
- There were more than 400 new COVID-19 infections in New Hampshire this week, health officials reported on Wednesday. Of the 443 active infections, 25 percent, or over 100 new cases, were in children. State health officials said there are 3,648 active COVID-19 cases, but noted that "hospitalizations were flat" with no newly hospitalized patients. (WMUR)
- If you are a Bedford parent who found it difficult to get an appointment for a COVID-19 test for your children to return to school, you will be happy to hear that Gov. Chris Sununu said he plans to open four new test sites in the coming weeks. Sununu said the new COVID-19 test sites are to help "reduce the backlog" of students and workers waiting to get tested. In his announcement Wednesday, the governor said that the new PCR test sites will be located in high population areas, like Manchester and Nashua. (The Union Leader)
- If you were wondering what happened to the former Segway headquarters in Bedford, the building on 14 Technology Dr. has been sold for $8.63 million to pharmaceutical manufacturer LSNE., according to Colliers commercial real estate, who brokered the deal. The new LSNE facility will create growth opportunities for current employees and bring new jobs to the state of New Hampshire, Colliers said. (NHBR)
- New Hampshire kindergarten teacher Meghan Jerome from Bedford, who teaches at the Auburn Village School, is doing something she never thought she would do — she will be running 26.2 miles in the virtual Boston Marathon. The 22-year-old teacher said she has never been a runner, "never in my life," but was inspired to run after her mother, who now also runs, had to have her leg amputated. Jerome said she is running to support The Gillian Reny Stepping Strong Center for Trauma Innovation. She added, "if you told me five years ago that I was going to run the Boston Marathon, I would think you were crazy!” (CBS News)
