Goffstown Man Sentenced To 40 Years To Life For Murdering His Mother
Thomas Humphrey stabbed his mother, Linda Tufts, 22 times after being asked to turn down his video game and set her on fire in her home.

GOFFSTOWN, NH — A Goffstown man who stabbed his mother to death and set a fire in her house has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and arson.
Thomas Humphrey, of Goffstown, stabbed his mother, Linda Tufts, inside her house on Joffre Street in Goffstown last year.
Court documents indicate that Humphrey's mother had given him a video game as a gift and asked him to turn the volume down. In a fit of rage, he stabbed her 22 times, nearly decapitating her, and then lit her body on fire.

Linda Tufts, 70, was found dead at her Joffre Street home after police responded to a report of an assault and a fire.
The victim was located when responders arrived, and the fire was quickly extinguished. A search began for Humphrey, who was eventually located inside the house in the cellar with several self-inflicted wounds. Humphrey was transported to Catholic Medical Center for medical treatment and later charged with second-degree murder.

In Hillsborough County Superior Court, Northern District, Humphrey entered guilty pleas. Humphrey was given a sentence of 40 years to life on the second-degree murder charge and a consecutive sentence of 5 to 10 years on the arson conviction.
