Here are the top stories today in Bedford:

  1. The NH State Council on the Arts announced that $98,125 has been awarded to cultural organizations in New Hampshire in 2020 through its Arts for Community Engagement grant program, and the Jewish Federation of New Hampshire in Bedford is one of the award recipients! The ACE grants support projects that benefit the community and public by providing access to high quality arts activities and performances that include concerts, exhibits, performances, workshops, community arts programming, and collaborative public art projects. (The Laconia Daily Sun)
  2. Visitors and tourists will be able to travel across the border on November 8. News broke on Wednesday that the United States plans to open the the Canadian and Mexican border to visitors. A New Hampshire Congressional Delegation praised the U.S. border crossing re-opening announcement as good news for New Hampshire residents and businesses. Taylor Caswell, the New Hampshire Department of Business and Economic Affairs Commissioner, said that our tourism industry has been anxiously awaiting this news for months and said that New Hampshire is "excited" and "looking forward to" welcome back our Canadian friends very soon. (Manchester Ink Link)
  3. It's time to pass the bipartisan infrastructure bill. That's what U.S. Rep. Chris Pappas said in a Union Leader Op-Ed on Sunday. Pappas said that the bill will "deliver meaningful results" for New Hampshire and will "impact everyone who drives on our roads, connects to the internet, and drinks water from their kitchen sink." Pappas said that the bill is critical for New Hampshire for "safety upgrades along a major corridor in Bedford, failing sewer lines in Exeter, or a broadband desert in Carroll County." The Hampton Bridge that carries 18,000 vehicles a day during the height of the summer season, once held the distinction of being the longest wooden bridge in America. "It now holds a more ominous title: New Hampshire’s No. 1 Red-Listed Bridge," said Pappas. He added, "the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act addresses our most pressing infrastructure challenges head-on" and will deliver a 47% funding increase in 2022 for the Granite State. Pappas is urging colleagues on both sides of the aisle to put politics aside and "think about the people we serve." You can read more here: (The Union Leader)
