Here are the top stories today in Bedford:
- Firefighters from the Bedford and Alton fire departments practiced commercial driving at the Manchester-Boston Regional Airport yesterday. The "driving day" is part of the New Hampshire Fire Academy's five-day accredited class for firefighters to obtain a commercial driver's license. A CDL is not required to work as a firefighter, but for safety reasons, the Bedford Fire department requires all full-time firefighters to obtain a CDL. An added bonus: the The Driver Operator All Vehicle Class (DOAV) class counts to reduce the fire departments' town insurance rates. Congratulations BFD firefighters! (Bedford Fire Department, NH via Facebook)
- The Bedford Public Library will be closed for paving on Thursday, May 18. The library will be closed from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. , but the BPL noted it will be open Thursday from 5 -8:30 p.m. Paving will be postponed if it rains (or the air has too much humidity). Visit the Library website for up-to-date information: (Bedford Patch)
- Stop by the St. Philip Greek Food Festival this weekend. The annual Greek Food Festival at Saint Philip Greek Orthodox Church in Nashua will be will be held on Friday, May 19, and Saturday, May 20. Take the Everett Turnpike south to Exit 5 in Nashua — only a 20-minute drive from Bedford. You will find "homemade Greek food and pastries" as well as live Greek music by 'Ta Pethia" on Friday and Saturday nights. Watch a special dance performance by the professional Greek dance troupe "Sons and Daughters of Alexander The Great" on Saturday at 6 p.m. Find out more here: (Bedford Patch)
