  1. What happened to the iconic John Goffe’s Mill? It's hidden along a path behind the Bedford FedEx store as a humble reminder of Bedford’s past that stretches back to the French and Indian War. No longer a working mill, Goffe's Mill remained intact when the site became the home of the locally famous Wayfarer Hotel and Convention Center that closed its doors in 2010, and was taken down in 2015. Goffe's Mill is on South River Road (U.S. Route 3) along Bowman Brook, which flows into the nearby Merrimack River. (Atlas Obscura)
  2. A shout-out to Alex Gagne of Bedford who was mentioned in a recent RinkWise podcast. When talking about the 2021 draft, Jeff Cox commented on the noticeable presence of Alex Gagne, who “proved that he wanted to be a hockey player.” (New England Hockey Journal)
  3. What can New Hampshire learn from an Island in the Atlantic with a lot of Renewable Energy? The Isles of Shoals, about 10 miles off the coast of New Hampshire and Maine, could be a snapshot of the future of renewable energy. The Shoals Marine Laboratory run by the University of New Hampshire and Cornell University sufficiently generates solar and wind energy on the remote island using a microgrid. Martin Wosnik, an engineer who works with the laboratory and teaches about renewable energy at UNH, said that mainland grid modernization is needed for significant amounts of energy to move over long distances – something that’s currently limited. (New Hampshire Bulletin)
  4. You can help stop the severe blood supply shortage. On Friday, October 1st, between 2 p.m.- 6:30 p.m., the Red Cross blood drive is coming to Bedford at the St. Elizabeth Seton Church Parish Center on 190 Meetinghouse Road. The Red Cross is asking people of all blood types to donate blood as the U.S. is currently facing a severe blood supply shortage. Those who donate blood, platelets, or plasma in October will receive a free Zaxby's signature sandwich, or a $5 e-gift card. Donors are asked to schedule an appointment before arriving at the drive.
