Here are the top stories today in Bedford:
- The Holiday Parade is returning to Manchester on Dec. 4. This fun and festive downtown parade will begin at 4 p.m., right after the entertaining Santa Claus Shuffle race at 3 p.m. This year's parade features energetic performances by high school marching bands, holiday-themed floats, and an appearance by St. Nick himself. John Clayton and Peter White will emcee the parade this year from Veteran’s Park on Elm Street. After not having a parade last year due to the pandemic, Mayor Joyce Craig said that this year's parade, "is a great way to kick off the month of December." (Manchester Ink Link)
- Swish! Hockey action on Friday and Saturday: The U.N.H. hockey team is playing No. 8 ranked UMass this weekend. University of New Hampshire hockey coach Mike Souza noted reviewing past notes that the University of Massachusetts was a hockey team that "played with some swagger." That was before the Minute Men won its first NCAA championship last spring. The Wildcats will challenge UMass on Friday night at the Mullins Center in Amherst and Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Whittemore Center in Durham, New Hampshire. (The Union Leader)
- New train service to the Manchester-Boston airport? New, faster, more efficient trains may bring passengers, and a brighter future, to New Hampshire. The funding windfall from the long-awaited infrastructure bill promises to create more transportation options for the Granite State, and an easy way for people to travel to and from the Manchester-Boston regional airport. The airport recently announced new non-stop flights to more travel destinations with the welcome arrival of Spirit Airlines. Advocates say updating tracks that can provide new, efficient rail access to the airport and other stops in New Hampshire, is a way forward. The planned train route from Boston would have two stops in Nashua, one near the Manchester-Boston Airport close to Bedford, and one in Manchester. (WMUR Manchester)
