How Bedford's State Reps Voted on the Gas Tax Bill

Two Bedford Republicans break party line, vote in favor of tax increase.

The New Hampshire House of Representatives voted 207-163 on March 6 to pass a bill that proposes raising the state's gas tax 15 cents over four years.

The bill was referred to the House Ways and Means Committee for review.

Supporters said the revenue raised would help pay for critical road and bridge improvements over the next decade, including nearly $1.9 million in Bedford projects. Opponents called it a burdensome tax increase on residents and businesses and while highway improvements are necessary, this bill is the wrong solution.

Bedford Republicans John Graham and David Danielson were two of the few legislators to break the party line. In fact, of Bedford's seven lawmakers – all GOP – Graham and Danielson were the lone reps to support the bill.
