Here are the top stories today in Bedford:

  1. State police are asking for your help. A ladder fell from a truck onto Interstate 93 South between Exit 6 and the I-93/I-293 lower split in Manchester on Thursday, Oct. 21, at approximately 3:53 p.m. and the vehicle kept driving. The ladder in the roadway caused a serious motorcycle accident. Troopers from the New Hampshire State Police in Bedford responded to find Martin J. Peshka III, 66, of Milford with serious injuries. Peshka was taken to the Elliott hospital. Anyone with any information related to the incident is urged to contact Trooper Matthew Wolak at Matthew.T.Wolak@dos.nh.gov or at 603-223-3787. 2. The University of New Hampshire men’s hockey team lost in a shut out against the number 12 ranked Providence College Friars in its first Hockey East game of the season Sunday night at the Whittemore Center in Durham. It was their first home game loss. Speaking about the Friars, U.N.H. coach Mike Souza said, “They don’t give you much,” adding that they defend the front of their net “as well as any team in college hockey.” Souza pulled Robinson, a senior from Bedford, with three minutes remaining. The men's U.N.H. hockey coach said the game was disappointing because the Wildcats worked hard, but "you can’t win hockey games if you don’t score.” The Wildcats will play Providence again this weekend in a home-and-home series. (The Union Leader)
  3. "There are no U.S. troops left in Afghanistan," wrote 1st Lt. William C. Barrett, 1-101st Field Artillery Regiment Battalion, S6, of Beverly, MA. Barrett said, most people will only remember the scenes of chaos and images of thousands of Afghans desperately storming the International Airport in Kabul and "our 13 brothers and sisters in arms who gave their lives." He noted that Headquarters, Headquarters Battery (HHB) soldiers were among the last troops on the ground in the last days of the Afghanistan missions and "gave their all," taking on extra duties to improve defense and aiding refugees, but many do not know the stories of the thousands of people whose efforts made a huge impact. He noted that HHB Soldiers "remain motivated" to support ongoing goals and continue to "bring pride" to the Nation’s oldest Field Artillery Regiment. The 1-101st Field Artillery Regiment, the Nation’s First, is headed by Lt. Col. Mark C. Glenn of Bedford, N.H. You can read more here: (DVIDS)
