Here are the top stories in Bedford today:
- Colder Temperatures, Flurries Possible: Brrr. Cold air is moving in. Bedford and Southern New Hampshire may see a dusting of snow with some accumulation possible, according to WMUR meteorologist Mike Haddad. Parts of New Hampshire may see occasional light snow later in the evening. Thursday will be sunny, but chilly. You can see more of today's forecast here: (WMUR)
- Unusually Bright Comet: The brightest comet of the year arrived on Tuesday and you can spot it just before sunrise between 5 and 5:30 a.m. The best way to view Comet Leonard is with binoculars or a telescope. In the east, look to the left and below the red star Arcturus. Astronomer say you can find Arcturus by tracing an arc from the handle of the Big Dipper and look for the red star. Comet Leonard will appear lower on the horizon after Tuesday, Dec. 7 and will be closest to Earth Dec. 12, when it will also start to appear just after sunset. The best days to look for the comet is after sunset is after Dec. 17. (WMUR)
- Proposed Millyard Signs: If you drive from Bedford on I-293 through Manchester, you may have noticed the former red Oracle sign on top of the building. Now that Oracle has closed its Manchester office, the Millyard building's owner Carlisle Capital Corporation proposed a new sign saying “150 Dow” in red block letters, but The Manchester Heritage Commission decided against the proposal. One concerns was that no businesses used a building address as a sign and it could set a new precedent. Heritage Commission Chairman Kevin McCue also questioned if a sign was needed in that location. According to a previous article in the Union Leader, Mark Graham, vice president and chief financial officer for Carlisle Capital, said the company was looking to brand the building and that the proposed sign would be permanent. The commission asked Carlisle Capital to come in with a different proposal on Dec. 28. (The Union Leader)
