- Luckiest Lottery Player In New Hampshire? If you buy a lottery ticket after shopping for groceries at Hannaford or other places in Bedford, you may wonder if your ticket will win. One New Hampshire player that NHPR reporter Todd Bookman called "The Luckiest Lady In New Hampshire" is the top winner of jackpots over $600 in the state. After being altered to the story of a player who seemed to defy the odds, NHPR journalist Todd Bookman enlisted the help of a statistician with a passion for lottery figures to find out how lucky a play has to be as the top New Hampshire lottery winner. - Gold Award: The Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains, that has its main office in Bedford, New Hampshire, announced that Girl Scout Elijah Lembo, 18, of Exeter New Hampshire, won the Girl Scout Gold Award for her “Rescue and Rehome" project to raise awareness about saving unwanted horses. For the past four years, Elijah has volunteered for the Hidden Pond Farm Equine Rescue and has been an advocate for horses that face an uncertain fate, including a rescued racehorse named Venezuelan Beauty, who ended up in a kill pen despite winning her last race. According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, there are millions of unwanted horses in the United States. To help meet the expenses of caring for rescued horses the farm supports their work with trail rides, summer camps, grants, and donations. Elijah Lembo has earned the highest honor in Girl Scouting for her efforts. In a press release, The Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains said, "The Gold Award is a testament to their remarkable dedication to improving their community and the world." - First Health Workers For Climate Action Event: Former Gov. John Lynch, former first lady Susan Lynch, and other officials, including U.S. Reps. Annie Kuster, Chris Pappas, physician and state Sen. Tom Sherman, physicians, nurses, and other medical professionals are attending the Healthcare Workers for Climate Action kick-off event Saturday at 10 a.m. at the State House in Concord. Healthcare Workers for Climate Action is affiliated with the Medical Society Consortium on Climate and Health. Dr. Robert Dewey, a retired Bedford cardiologist and co-founder of the group, said about 575 health care professionals, physicians, nurses, ETM's and others signed an online letter to Gov. Chris Sununu asking elected officials to take action on climate issues and "rapidly transition" to solar, wind, geothermal, tidal, and hydroelectric energy. The letter noted that climate change is "a true public health priority, the greatest public health challenge of the 21st century, and it demands action." Find out more here: (WMUR Manchester)
