MANCHESTER, NH — Manchester police responded to a burglary report on Wednesday morning on Scenic Drive.

The homeowner reported to police that a man had followed her into her garage. She told police to prevent him from entering further, and she drove out and closed the garage door behind her.
Upon arrival, officers opened the garage but did not find the man, however additional responding officers noticed a man in a second-floor window.

Officers entered the house through the garage door and called for the suspect to come downstairs. The suspect, however, refused and slammed the door shut, police said.

SWAT team members were then called to the scene and instructed the man to exit the second-floor bedroom. They forced entry when he did not comply and discovered him hiding in the bathroom.

He still refused to come out, prompting an officer to deploy a less lethal munition, along with a K-9 unit, according to police.

As SWAT personnel attempted to take him into custody, the suspect grabbed the barrel of one of their rifles and attempted to pull it from the officer, who managed to retain control of the weapon, police said.

The man was identified as Abdourahmane Dieng, 37, of no fixed address in Manchester.

Police determined Dieng was out on bail for a prior assault charge from July.

He now faces charges of burglary, resisting arrest, and attempted taking of a gun from a law enforcement officer, according to MPD Spokesperson Heather Hamel.
