Man Shot In Manchester; Alleged Shooter, From Queens, New York, Is Charged

Police: Gil Diaz, 26, was arrested on assault and felon possessing a dangerous weapon charges after a Saturday shooting on Orange Street.

MANCHESTER, NH — Manchester police, fire, and AMR ambulance responded to a reported shooting at 140 Orange St. at the corner of Union Street on Saturday.

When responders arrived at about 5:30 p.m.they found a 27-year-old man suffering a gunshot wound to his lower extremity and had severe bleeding, according to witnesses.

Police said the victim was uncooperative with police and was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A witness told police he was sitting on the porch, heard a loud bang, and saw a man walking north between two houses.

Manchester police were able to view surveillance video that showed the suspect.

Shortly afterward, officers located a man matching the suspect’s description in the area of Blodgett and Chestnut streets. He was identified as Gil Diaz, 26, of Queens, New York. Diaz was uncooperative with officers and initially gave a false name, according to police.

A police K-9 specializing in article searches such as weapons followed the path of the suspect from Blodgett Street back to where the shooting occurred. It is unknown if the man was arrested for actions directly related to the shooting.

Diaz was charged with first-degree assault, felon in possession of a dangerous weapon, falsifying physical evidence, unsworn falsification, and resisting arrest.

A woman, who was originally at the shooting scene, was at Blodgett and Chestnut streets watching the man being placed into the transport van left the intersection in a vehicle being driven by a man.

The car was immediately stopped one block from where the man was placed in custody. A police K-9 searched the car, and the man and woman were detained at the scene for over 1 hour. It is unknown if anyone was charged with any crimes.
