Manchester Shooting Ruled Homicide But May Be Self-Defense

MANCHESTER, NH - The autopsy of the fatal shooting in Manchester Tuesday night has been completed by the Office of the New Hampshire Medical Examiner.

The manner of death is classified as a homicide by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, homicide is defined as the killing of one person by another.

The investigation is active and ongoing and includes whether the person who shot Mr. Yancey acted in self-defense.
Manchester Police, fire, and EMS responded to reports of gunfire with a person injured on Union Street between Bell Street and Valley Street Tuesday.

Responders arrived shortly after 7:30 p.m. and located a victim suffering from a gunshot wound. They removed the man from in front of a multi-unit house where the shooting appeared to occur.
They brought the man to firefighters and EMS at Valley and Union streets, and despite efforts, the person died a short time later at the scene.
Manchester police secured the scene, blocked a large area surrounding the incident, and erected a tent to cover the deceased person.
The apparent location of the shooting was in an alley just west of Union Street and south of Bell Street. Manchester Police medical bags on the ground were surrounded by police tape.
The shooting incident is just two blocks from the police station. Several people were taken from the scene to police headquarters for statements. Police were also in the area searching for evidence and securing the location.
The City of Manchester recently implemented new "shot spotter" technology which detects gunfire and immediately shows on the dispatcher's screen. The technology is able to pinpoint where the shooting happened and the number of shots.
Manchester Police Captain Sean Leighton said at the Wednesday Police Commissioners meeting that police were notified of Union Street before anyone called the police. This allowed officers to be at the scene immediately, secure the scene and begin treating the victim.
Tuesday's shooting happened within a few yards of a fatal shooting in February 2020. Chandler Innarelli, 22 was fatally shot and no arrests have ever been made.
