Here are the top stories today in Bedford:

  1. Mystery million-dollar donor: The Nashua Performing Arts Center, currently under construction, recently received a boost when a generous donor made a $1 million anonymous donation. Board President Rich Lannan said that Phillip Scontsas, a member of the Nashua Community Arts (NCA) fundraising team and owner of Scontsas Fine Jewelry on Main Street, was in conversations with the anonymous donor and secured the pledge. The new Nashua Performing Arts Center is located in the heart of downtown Nashua — only a 20-minute drive from Bedford. (Manchester Ink Link)
  2. We've got Spirit! And so does the Manchester-Boston Regional Airport. Today, Spirit Airlines will kick off its new service from Manchester to Orlando. The low-cost carrier will have flights to and from Fort Lauderdale starting on Friday, and service to Fort Myers and Tampa in November. On Tuesday, United Airlines celebrated its first inaugural regional flight from Newark to Manchester, celebrating with United-Airlines-themed balloons and giveaways. Before Tuesday, if you wanted to arrive in Manchester from another destination on United Airlines, you had to fly into Boston and find a ride to Manchester. “Three new cities in a week,” said airport director Ted Kitchens. “I don’t know how many times the airport has had that in the past.” Deputy airport director Tom Malafronte added that Spirit Airlines is expected to announce “potential future service out of Manchester” on Thursday. 3. It's October, and many families are planning to visit to Bedford-area pumpkin patches. To make the most out of your day, plan to play these five fun pumpkin games after you have selected your pumpkins. You can organize a family competition — and everyone will enjoy the new games and fun memories after your pumpkin patch visit! Here you will find a few fun pumpkin games: (Patch)
