Here are the top stories today in Bedford:

  1. A new commission will look at how funds are distributed by charity casinos in the state to make sure charities are getting a fair share of gaming profits. The House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Laurie Sanborn (R-Bedford) was named Monday to lead the commission to determine if charities are being paid a fair share of gaming profits and how long 14 casinos in New Hampshire will be allowed to have a monopoly on historic horse race machines, which are "the most lucrative game in their rooms." Sanborn's husband, former Republican state Senator Andy Sanborn, is the owner of The Draft restaurant, which includes the Concord Casino. Find out more here: (Yahoo News)
  2. It’s time to order the 2024 Farm Calendar featuring friendly farm animals and memorable scenes from the Educational Farm At Joppa Hill. Order your calendar for family and friends to support the nonprofit farm and education programs. Calendars can be picked-up at the fall fair in late September. Pre-order here: (The Educational Farm at Joppa Hill via Facebook)
  3. A shoutout to Bedford high school volleyball player Lindsey Healey who was named the 2023 Best Player in New Hampshire by MaxPreps All-Americans! Players were chosen "based on last year's statistical data provided to MaxPreps, as well as local, state or national honors." from multiple media outlets. The Bulldogs are entering 2023 with a 50-game winning streak as back-to-back unbeaten state champions "with Healey as the leader of that squad." (MaxPreps)
