Here are the top stories today in Bedford:

  1. A new train, safer bridges, and clean water are part of a billion-dollar investment in New Hampshire transportation and infrastructure through the new bipartisan infrastructure bill. The public is invited to a public meeting on Wednesday to discuss how new commuter trains, including a route from Boston to Nashua and Manchester, can bring prosperity and benefit New Hampshire. The new federal funding and investment in transportation re-energized the discussion of improvements to transportation in the state. The N.H. Department of Transportation said that the meeting will be an update to the state's plans and provide an opportunity for public input for the Project Development phase. The meeting will be both in-person and online. You can find out more here: (Concord Monitor)
  2. Early winter surge: State health officials say that COVID-19 cases are on the rise in New Hampshire, including in Manchester, Bedford, and Nashua, with many of the new cases in those under 18. The Department of Health and Human Services reported that 1,007 new people were infected with the virus since Thursday, with 1,153 new infections reported earlier in the week. Of the new cases, 667 were in those under 18. There were five new deaths, with 6,466 active infections statewide. State health officials remind New Hampshire residents and visitors to use COVID-19 common-sense measures and to follow state health guidelines to help prevent the spread of infection, especially with Thanksgiving approaching. Have a safe holiday season. (Patch)

A wreath sent by the White House will be laid at the historic Old North Cemetery in Concord to commemorate this event. The public is invited to attend, with COVID-19 precautions. The wreath-laying will take place at the historic Old North Cemetery in Concord. (NHPR)
