Here are the top stories in Bedford today:

  1. The New Hampshire SPCA needs your help! They are asking for donations, food and adopters for dozens of animals rescued from a Bedford home, bringing the total number of animals in its care to over 200. Last week, thirty-three dogs, three birds and a cat were rescued from a Bedford home that had mold and an “overwhelming” odor of animal waste and urine, a press release said. Dogs were living in "wire crates" stacked three high in the home that had been previously investigated by the New Hampshire SPCA over the summer, when they had to remove "horses, donkeys and other dogs." 2. If you ordered a glass of chardonnay or merlot, and your restaurant was out of stock, it may have been one of ten cases of wine that tumbled off of the back of a delivery truck in Bedford. The crates of new wine headed for a New Hampshire restaurants fell of the back of a pickup truck when it turned onto Route 101 on Thursday morning. When the roadway was cleared, the surviving bottles were stacked on the side of the road. See the lineup here: (WMUR Manchester)
  3. What is New Hampshire's first zero-waste grocery? Doors opened to the earth-minded Live Free Refillery Aug. 10 at 460 State Route 101. The grocery store is "a new way of selling groceries without single-use packaging." Walk into the store and you will find reusable containers, like glass mason jars, to fill up on nuts, seeds, rice, beans, whole grains, coffee, teas, spices, and even laundry and dish soap. Packaging is made from reusable, recyclable or biodegradable materials for a healthier environment. The Live Free Refillery was started by Juliette Buell after she worked in agriculture for 15 years.
