PWS Plans 'A Royal Goodbye' for Principal

School organizers planning a community farewell for retiring principal Ken Williams.

He’s been in education for more than 32 years, 24 of which he's served as a fixture in Bedford schools.

When the final bell rings on the 2012-'13 school year, however, Ken Williams will end his long career by retiring as Peter Woodbury principal.

“For the last 24 years, Mr. Williams has devoted himself tirelessly to helping to shape the minds of countless students in Bedford and beyond,” says Cheryl Daley, assistant principal at PWS. “I cannot think of anyone in the history of this town who has been more respected or beloved, not only as an educator, but in his treasured role as principal of Peter Woodbury School.”

“The students he’s touched over the decades – many of whom are now adults with their own families – have had the unique opportunity to be guided by a man who has taught them that learning can be fun," she continued. "He has devoted his entire career to empowering the minds and spirits of children everywhere, and he will be deeply missed.”

To mark the 'end of an era' and begin the process of saying 'farewell,' the school is planning a variety of events to commemorate Williams' many contributions to the district, beginning with a special reception open to the public.

PWS will begin by honoring him during its annual “Family Fun Night” event on Thursday, March 28, to which the entire community is invited.

The theme of the evening is “A Royal Goodbye,” and a receiving line will be set up for members of the community who wish to have a personal moment with the man who many in the community consider to be “education royalty.”

In fact, the event will be split in two to maximize the amount of time residents, parents and former students have to thank Williams. The first session is 4-5:30 p.m. and the second is 6-7:30 p.m.

The community is also invited to share a message, submit a photo or a memory with Mr. Williams in an online “memory book.”
