Here are the top stories in Bedford today:

  1. President Joe Biden plans to visit New Hampshire this week to talk about how the new infrastructure bill will benefit the Granite State. In a planned visit to Woodstock on Tuesday, he will visit a bridge on the state's priority list of unsafe bridges and discuss how the new infrastructure package will bring funds to critical infrastructure around the state. The federal funds are a windfall for New Hampshire, and will provide much-needed funding for everything from repairing aging roads and dangerous bridges, to creating safe drinking water by replacing lead pipes and upgrading antiquated sewer systems that dump raw sewage into the Merrimack River. There are also plans for forward-looking projects including a new, efficient commuter rail, electric charging stations for cars, and other projects that will bring a cleaner environment and prosperity to the state. “Over a billion dollars is coming to New Hampshire,” U.S. Rep Annie Kuster said last week when announcing the transportation and infrastructure funds heading for New Hampshire. 2. Thank you parishioners of St. Elizabeth Seton: Members of St. Elizabeth Seton Church in Bedford joined with the Bedford Knights of Columbus and with other organizations, donating more than $13,000 to the N.H. Food Bank. The donations help provide families in need with a Thanksgiving Day meal. The Knights of Columbus and St. Elizabeth Seton appreciated contributions from parishioners. Msgr. John Quinn, pastor of St. Elizabeth Seton and chaplain of the Bedford Knights of Columbus, helped start the program 12 years ago and is a tireless supporter. Michael Pitaro, grand knight of Council 12988 said he is "extremely proud" of council members, parishioners, and all those who donated to this worthy cause. (NH Food Bank)
  3. If you want to earn extra income over the holidays, Market Basket in Bedford, and nationwide, is hiring. The New England supermarket chain held job fairs in more than 60 stores Friday. The holidays are an especially busy time, and grocery stores have a lot of jobs to fill. Market Basket says they plan to increase staff to maintain "a personal connection" with customers, rather than adding more self-checkout machines. Joe Schmidt, Market Basket's supervisor of operations, said they are not looking to take jobs away by adding more automated check-out stations. "We're looking to add jobs to the community," he said. The store in Waltham, Massachusetts added 30 people in one day. (WMUR)
