Here are the top stories today in Bedford:

  1. The public comment period for the Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics plant permit has been extended through July 5. Bedford and nearby communities have raised ongoing health and environmental concerns surrounding PFAS contamination and emissions. The Department of Environmental Services suggests a Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer to safeguard the public from PFAS-family pollutants from Saint-Gobain. Bedford Town Councilor and Citizen Representative Michael Strand suggested the permit "may not be legal, given risk of continued infringement on the rights to clean air and water, and asked how a 'permanent permit' could be ethically or legally granted when remediation for past air and water contamination has not yet been completed." You can submit your public comment via email by 4 p.m. on July 5, to Catherine.A.Beahm@des.nh.gov. (Town of Bedford)
  2. A shoutout to the Bedford Village Inn for winning a 2023 Wine Spectator Restaurant Award! The top wine honor was awarded to the BVI for its "outstanding wine program." Wine Spectator selects restaurants from 50 states and more than 75 countries and territories. The BVI offers a wine list of more than 800 wines in the Tavern and Dining Room for Brunch and Dinner. Congratulations! (Patch)
  3. The Biergarten at Anheuser-Busch is hosting a Playhouse Project fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity in Merrimack on Sept. 15. The Biergarten hopes to find sponsors to build six playhouses for children for $2,500 each. Sponsoring a playhouse helps the Greater Nashua Habitat for Humanity raise funds for its programs. Habitat for Humanity Executive Director Christa Tsechrintzis noted, “This can be a great team-building activity for our sponsor organizations.” Find out more here: (Patch)
