Here are the top stories today in Bedford:

  1. May is National Bike Safety Month, and The Bedford Police Department posted tips about how to bike safely in Bedford: Bicycles in roadways "are considered vehicles." Anyone older than the age of 10 should ride a bike "like a vehicle on the street" traveling in the same direction as other vehicles. Sidewalks are for pedestrians. If you ride your bike on a sidewalk, always give pedestrians the right of way, and (my favorite) don't ride your bike into Grandma or a baby stroller. To cross the street, stop first, then walk your bike in a crosswalk across the street like a pedestrian... See more about using turn signals here: (Bedford Police Department via Twitter)
  2. A shoutout to Bedford Police Department volunteers and friends from the Merrimack Police Department who washed cars—and even a few large trucks—at the Bubbles and Badges car wash this weekend. And it was all for a good cause. The Bubbles and Badges car wash raised money for Special Olympics in New Hampshire. See photos of the event, and a few sparkling clean vehicles, here: (Bedford NH Police Department via Facebook)
  3. One housing record was tied, and another is closer to an all-time high. In April, the Seacoast area tied for the highest median home price since last June. And across the state, the median home price "climbed for a third straight month" and was within $10,000 of topping the median home price record. Strong demand, higher interest rates and very low inventory are making it challenging for consumers to find affordable homes. Bedford real estate agent Sara Lucas "had six clients who couldn't find either a condo or house to buy." "It’s incredible there’s no inventory,” she added. (Subscription/The Union Leader)
