  1. REI (Recreational Equipment, Inc.) plans to open its new Bedford location in the fall. Phase two of the Main & Marketplace development is moving along. Other stores and restaurants have reportedly signed leases and started construction on their units, said Andrew Levey in his 2023 fall NH retail market forecast. 2. The Bedford Garden Club will host its New Member Social on Sept. 6 from 3-5 p.m. at 92 Pulpit Road. Bedford residents are invited for a fun afternoon to learn about the club's programs, workshops, field trips and membership benefits. If you are thinking about joining the Garden Club, this is a perfect time to find out more! Please RSVP to the club's email account: contact@BedfordGardenClubNH.org. (Bedford Patch)
  3. If you know the oldest Bedford resident, you have until Sept. 8 to submit their name to the Town of Bedford to nominate them to receive the Boston Post Cane. What is a Boston Post Cane? It's one of 43 canes made of African ebony wood with 14-carat gold handles that were crafted in 1909 — yes, 1909! — for the Boston Post newspaper. The canes were given to several New England towns, including Bedford, to honor its oldest resident. The Boston Post cane was held by Bedford resident Edna Jane Dubbury from Aug. 12, 2020, until she passed away on June 15, 2023, at the age of 105, the Town said in a news release. To qualify, the recipient must be a 10-year Bedford resident. Submit nominees by Sept. 8 here: (Bedford Patch)
