Residents Fall in Love with Bedford Falls

'It's a wonderful life' for those who moved to Bedford's innovative and modern assisted living community in late 2012.

The name is derived from the the nostalgic fictional community depicted in Frank Capra's 1946 Christmas hit, It's a Wonderful Life.

For many of the residents of Bedford Falls – New Hampshire's newest senior assisted living community – the name is fitting.

Barbara and Jack, two of the first residents to move into the massive manse on Corporate Drive, said the luxurious living conditions stood out when they first visited, but it was the employees that put the exclamation point on their decision to make Bedford Falls their home.

"I was very impressed with everything they had to offer and the people were just marvelous. They're all marvelous," said Barbara. "They cater to us here, and that feels pretty good."

And while Barbara and other residents are delighted with the community and its surroundings, her husband, Jack, said he takes comfort knowing she'll be well cared for should he pass first.

"We've been married almost 60 years, and I wouldn't give her up to anybody," he said. "We've had a very good life, and I feel very strongly that my wife should be in a very, very, very good position, and if I die, she will survive."

The community, which at full capacity houses roughly 100 residents, offers a range of different residential options including assisted living, secure memory care, and respite care.

The state-of-the-art facility takes pride in not only being modern and innovative, but being green.

The Benchmark Senior Living community was recently granted LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) for Homes Platinum, the highest level of certification for green living standards. From the landscaping outside to the the use of high-efficiency lighting, energy and water systems, evidence of the Bedford Falls' commitment can be found throughout the building.

With residents' health in mind, low VOC paints, adhesives and sealants were used and the carpeting and flooring throughout are low-chemical emission certified.
