- Comedian and actress Sarah Silverman of Bedford has accused Meta's OpenAI of copyright infringement. Silverman, with bestselling authors Christopher Golden and Richard Kadrey, have brought a class-action lawsuit against Meta and OpenAI, the creators of ChatGPT and LLaMa systems, "for using their books without consent." They claim, "the companies used their books without consent, credit and compensation to train the chatbot." The lawsuit was launched last week on behalf of Paul Tremblay and Mona Awad, but has now been joined by Silverman, Golden and Kadrey. (WMUR Manchester)
- Eric Dubowik, deputy fire chief in Bedford, was among six firefighters sent to Berlin, Vermont, on Monday to aid with emergency rescues as part of a Swift Water Rescue Team. "First responders across the region" rushed to help Vermont residents caught in flood waters from the heavy rainfall. More heavy rain is expected in the area this weekend. (NBC10 Boston)
- Bedford Town Council members and Facilities Information and Communications Committee members walked through the site at 300 South River Road of the proposed South River Road Safety Complex. The proposed new police and fire Safety Complex will be the headquarters for the entire police department and will house a new Fire Substation. Bedford has nearly doubled in population since the previous station was built in 2014, with "a fivefold increase in the number of calls for service." (Bedford Patch)
