The sobriety checkpoint is planned for this week to the Bedford area. Police will target impaired drivers.
BEDFORD, NH — A sobriety checkpoint is planned in the Bedford area this week, State Police Troop B announced Monday. At the checkpoint, law enforcement officers will check for any signs of impairment for drivers, to ensure those behind the wheel of a vehicle are sober. The checkpoint will be conducted by state troopers, the Bedford police and the state liquor enforcement personnel.
All sobriety checkpoints are authorized by the Superior Court, per law. According to the State Police, the checkpoint are one of the most effective ways to prevent and apprehend impaired drivers.
"A review of records and statistics over the course of the last several years has shown that use of alcohol and/or drugs by individuals who operate motor vehicles has resulted in an alarming number of deaths and personal injury accidents," State Police Troop B stated. "This checkpoint will be part of an on-going effort to maintain the safety of all motorists within Bedford and the surrounding communities."
