Here are the top stories today in Bedford:

  1. Bedford athletes were shocked and saddened to hear that a well-liked soccer star was shot and killed in a Manchester park early Sunday morning. Thamba Mbungu was shot in Derryfield Park, where he often trained when he was a player and star athlete of the Central High School soccer team. The 2019 graduate hoped to go pro, and was the only All American player from New Hampshire, out of only 11 in New England. Central High soccer coach, Chris LaBerge, said that Mbungu was captain of the soccer team and lead the team to the state finals. “He is probably one of the greatest players I’ve ever had over the last 22 years,” LaBerge said Monday. Mbungu's death is under investigation. Anyone with information is urged to contact at 603-668-8711. (The Union Leader)
  2. Are there haunted places in New Hampshire? From Nashua and the Lakes Region to Henniker and Fitzwilliam, there are lingering stories of unexplained hauntings. One reported haunted place is the Gilson Road Cemetery in Nashua. Some visitors said they experienced strange sensations, like being pushed or feeling like they were walking through water. The University of New Hampshire in Durham didn't escape the list, and reportedly has occasional unexplained hauntings in Smith Hall and Thompson Hall, according to a post on the Only In Your State website. You can read about more haunted New Hampshire places here: (Only In Your State)
  3. First Snowfall: Wintry weather has already brought a chill and a blanket of snow in Northern New Hampshire. Leaf-peepers hoped that fall would linger as the foliage was brilliant this week, but residents of Lincoln woke up to a wintery scene. A white blanket of snow covered Kancamagus Highway Monday morning. Department of Transportation officials said that this snowfall is a good reminder to prepare your car as soon as possible for winter weather. (WMUR)
