Here are the top stories today in Bedford:

  1. The U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will hold a public meeting to inform residents about "ongoing environmental studies at the New Boston Space Force Station." The meeting will take place at a New Boston Town Hall on Thursday, May 25, 6 p.m. at 7 Meetinghouse Hill Road in New Boston. The purpose is to inform the community about ongoing environmental studies and answer questions in a Q&A session. Questions or comments can also be emailed to brett.dubner.1@us.af.mil. Everyone from the community is invited to attend. (Bedford Patch)
  2. A woman was killed in a landscaping accident in Chesterfield Friday when a portion of a tree fell on top of her when she was cutting it with a chainsaw, police say. It was the fourth tree-related death in New Hampshire this year. A member of a tree crew from Leo's Landscaping was electrocuted cutting a tree at a Nashua home, and in Bedford, a tree trimmer was electrocuted working with branches around power lines, Bedford police said. Experts called tree cutting "dangerous work." (WMUR Manchester)
  3. Plans for a new upscale hotel in Bedford have been stalled. The Akhil Hotel Group is asking the planning board for a one-year extension for its proposed five-story, 120-room Home 2 Suites hotel off of South River Road. The hotel project was approved in 2019, but the developers had to go back before the board last year to get reapproved. The project would replace a rundown commercial space building that was once a church and can be seen from the F.E. Everett Turnpike. "The board is set to consider the request June 12."
