Here are the top stories in Bedford today:

  1. A New Hampshire commission is considering a franchise model of state-run stores to sell marijuana. During the second meeting of a New Hampshire commission tasked with preparing legislation to legalize marijuana, Liquor Commissioner Joseph Mollica said in the novel model, "the Liquor Commission would be the franchisor and the franchisee would be the retailer.” Bedford Police Chief John Bryfonski, who represents a group opposing legalizing the controlled drug, asked what the program costs would be. Liquor Commission’s Mollica responded that the question was premature at this stage. Gov. Chris Sununu, who was originally hesitant to legalize marijuana, said in May he was open to a government-operated model that addressed his concerns about health and safety. (Marijuana Moment)
  2. Bedford's Primary Bank is making a big change. It's board of directors announced Bill Greiner, founder and current chairman of the board, will be interim CEO after the departure of Bank President and Chief Executive Officer William Stone. The good news is that Primary Bank said, "Mr. Greiner worked alongside Mr. Stone to make Primary Bank into the successful institution it is today." Congratulations, Bill Greiner! (Manchester Ink Link)
  3. It's always interesting to find out who is filing patents in New Hampshire. In this month's Granite Geek roundup through Sept. 21, DEKA Products Limited Partnerships, of Dean Kamen fame, has been assigned a patent for "Fluid Pumping Systems, Devices and Methodsinitially." The patent was developed by seven inventors, including Scott A. Leonard, Bedford, New Hampshire. DEKA was also awarded a patent for a "Peristaltic Pump," by Dean Kamen of Bedford and six other inventors. Congratulations! (Concord Monitor)
