Suspicious Death Being Investigated In Manchester On Rail Trail

MANCHESTER, NH — Manchester fire and AMR responded to the rail trail near Bradley Street and Beech Hill Avenue on Friday morning for a reported cardiac arrest.

When responders got to the scene, they reported it appeared to be a homicide, and a potential suspect had been seen running south on the rail trail from the scene. Police responded, some officers went to the scene, and others began searching the area of the rail trail and Gold Street

A short time later, a person described by witnesses was taken into custody on Gold Street. Police brought a handcuffed man to the cruiser and transported him from the scene.

Firefighters and AMR Medics worked on the victim and pronounced him dead at the scene.

According to sources at the scene, the victim appeared to be stabbed multiple times, although officials will only refer to it as a suspicious death.

The NH Attorney General's Office and Manchester Police issued the following statement:

"Attorney General John M. Formella and Manchester Police Chief Allen Aldenberg announce that officials from the Attorney General’s Office are responding to the scene of a suspicious death of an adult male in Manchester, New Hampshire. Additional information will be released as it becomes available while protecting the integrity of the investigation."

A large area at the end of Bradley Street is blocked, and detectives are working at the scene. The rail trail is taped off and temporarily closed while the investigation is underway.

In a statement from Manchester Police Spokesperson Heather Hamel said -

"There is currently a significant police presence in the area of the walking trail near Nutts Pond. While we ask that citizens stay out of the area, we want to emphasize that there is no danger to the public."

The walking trail has been closed and it is unclear when it will reopen.
