Tourney Time: Two BHS Squads at the Doorstep of Glory

Of all the high schools in New Hampshire with teams still active in postseason play, Bedford has the most squads that still have shots at championships.

The following is a summary of recent and upcoming tournament contests:

Ice Hockey

The third-ranked Bulldogs, who enjoyed a first-round bye to begin the playoffs, opened Division II postseason action with a 3-2 home win against No. 6 Kingswood Regional this past Saturday at Saint Anselm College.

The triumph earned the locals a spot in a state semifinals against No. 2 Spaulding. The game is currently scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6, at the Rinks at Exeter. Click here for a look at the full tournament bracket.

Boys Basketball

The 12-6 BHS boys basketball squad defeated Manchester Central - which is ranked second in the Division I tournament - 65-58 in the regular season finale Friday night to secure home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs.

The eighth-ranked Bulldogs are scheduled to host No. 9 Winnacunnet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 5. The victor likely faces top-seeded Trinity in the second round on Friday night.

Girls Basketball

The second-ranked Lady B's, 55-36 winners over No. 15 Manchester Central in last week's playoff opener, defeated seventh-ranked Alvirne, 51-35, Saturday night.

The victory secured Bedford a spot in the Division I semifinals where they play No. 6 Winnacunnet at Southern New Hampshire University on Thursday, March 6, at 5:30 p.m. For a complete look at the bracket, click here.

The Bedford High School varsity spirit squad is scheduled to compete for a state title on Sunday, March 10 at Southern New Hampshire University.
