Tree Falls Hitting Two People On Sidewalk And Damaging Parked Car

Large parts of an aging tree fell, seriously injuring a man, hitting a woman, and damaging a car on Hanover Street in Manchester Thursday.

MANCHESTER, NH — Two people were injured in Manchester when large parts of a tree fell on them during a gust of wind, seriously injuring one of them.

Manchester Fire and AMR responded to the area of Hanover and Union Streets Thursday at about 12:30 p.m. for a report of traumatic injuries and two people under the large branches that fell. Crews arrived and found two injured people, a man and a woman, and two very large parts of a tree that had fallen from the First Congressional Church lawn.

Firefighters worked to free the two people and began medical treatment of the man who was the most seriously injured. A second ambulance was requested for the woman. The man was transported to a local hospital with what appeared to be serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The woman was evaluated by medics at the scene and refused transport to the hospital. The falling parts of the tree damaged a car parked on Hanover Street.

Manchester Parks and Recreation a division of Department of Public Works were dispatched to the scene and worked to remove the tree from the car, street and sidewalk.

Hanover Street was closed for about an hour while crews worked to remove debris.
