- If you are looking for a new breakfast and lunch spot in Bedford, Tucker's announced they plan to open their new Bedford location, formerly the Outback restaurant, on Oct. 25, according to social media. The company said they "quickly identified Bedford" as an ideal spot for their sixth and largest location. The trim has been painted the traditional green color you will recognize from other Tucker's restaurants. In a recent post, they said that they are actively hiring for the new Bedford location. Other Tucker's locations are in Hooksett, New London, Concord, Dover, and Merrimack, the company wrote on their website. (Jeffrey Hastings)
- A judge for the state's highest court: Prominent Concord lawyer, Samantha Elliott, has been nominated by President Joe Biden to fill an open federal judge seat in New Hampshire. Elliott, a partner at the well-known law firm Gallagher, Callahan & Gatrell, represented Bedford schools in a case where former dean Zanna Blaney was fired after writing a controversial letter in support of a former co-worker who was convicted of sexually assaulting a high school student. New Hampshire Democratic senators Jeanne Shaheen and Maggie Hassan said that Elliott is an "excellent candidate" for the U.S. District Court position, and praised her as highly qualified with a demonstrated commitment to justice. The U.S. Senate has to confirm the nomination before Elliott can join the bench. (Yahoo News)
- David Allain, a 12-year-old from Bedford, was one of the Citizen Scientists who participated in BioBlitz, the University of New Hampshire’s Cooperative Extension annual program to help identify and conserve plants and animals on Town lands. Allain said he found most of the plants and animals listed on his "BioBlitz" bingo card. Granite Stater's, who participated in the popular program snapped photos of almost 7,000 plants and animals adding new data to the app that helps the state gain a better understanding of biodiversity on the lands that cities and towns manage. Haley Andreozzi, who ran the program, noted that the project had "more interest than organizers anticipated." (New Hampshire Public Radio)
- Congratulations to New Hampshire engineer Nita Patel who won the top spot as president-elect of the IEEE Computer Society. Patel, senior director of engineering for Otis Elevator, is the president-elect of the Los Alamitos, Calif.-based IEEE Computer Society for 2022, and will take over as president in 2023. Patel is the director of the IEEE Foundation and has been a mentor for several IEEE Women in Engineering summits. She is also a member of the executive committee of IEEE New Hampshire. Patel won the election with 3,277 votes. The other candidate, Dimitrios Serpanos, a professor at the University of Patras in Greece, received 1,791 votes. (New Hampshire Business Review)
