U.S. Marshals Arrest Manchester Man Wanted In Vermont Sexual Assaults

MANCHESTER, NH — A Manchester man was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals on a warrant related to two sexual assaults in Bennington, Vermont.

The Vermont State Police obtained arrest warrants for a man on charges of aggravated sexual assault and sexual assault-no consent arising from separate sexual assault investigations police said occurred in September 2023.

The suspect was identified as James A. Gathright Jr., 56, of Manchester. Gathright is facing charges of sexually assaulting a woman on Northside Drive in Bennington and of sexually assaulting a girl days later on the rail trail near Northside Drive in Bennington.

Gathright was apprehended on Monday in Manchester by the U.S. Marshals Service. He is awaiting extradition to Vermont.

The Vermont State Police were assisted by the Bennington Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Service during the investigation.
